「ゲゲゲの鬼太郎」の生みの親・水木しげるの妻、武良布枝が綴る大ベストセラー・自伝エッセイが完全映画化!! しげるの妻・布枝を演じたのは、高い演技力を評価される吹石一恵。昭和の貧しい時代にたくましく生きる姿を瑞々しく凛と演じきった。鬼才として名を馳せる水木しげるに扮したのは、舞台、映画、ドラマで脚本家、演出家としても活躍し続けている宮藤官九郎。水木しげると同じ"物を創る人間"だからこそ醸し出せたものに違いない、飄々と漫画を描き続ける宮藤のその佇まいに注目。監督は『私は猫ストーカー』で絶大な支持を得た鈴木卓爾。優しさ溢れる方言やアニメーションで動き出す原画、日常に潜む妖怪の登場シーンも楽しみの一つ。同時期にスタートした同小説原案のNHK朝の連続テレビ小説が高視聴率を獲得し、「ゲゲゲの」が2010年流行語大賞受賞するなど話題を振りまいた。――「収入は月三万円、安定した仕事をしちょるそうな」と、お見合いからわずか5日で結婚。昭和36年、出雲の安来から上京した布枝が見たのは、花の東京とは無縁のしげるの底なしの貧乏暮らしだった。質屋通いも日常茶飯事。食パンの耳も大切な食料源。不気味なしげるの原稿を出版社に届けた布枝が手渡されたのは、「暗い漫画は売れないから」という言葉と、約束の半分の原稿料だった・・・。漫画のこともしげるのこともよくわからない。そんな悔しさがこみ上げる布枝の前に、妖怪漫画をただひたすら描き続けるしげるの姿があった・・・。
