The film also incorporates many elements of black magic popular in the U.K. and the U.S., perhaps due to the 1969 slaughter of Charles Manson and his family, and is full of occult mayhem. The film is directed by Don Sharp, a veteran of numerous films at Hammer Films, a renowned horror film studio. The music is by John Cameron, who also composed Ken Loach's "Kes" ( 1969 ). The soundtrack is by a band called The Frog. The entire film has a disturbing psychedelic groovy sound. After completing the film, Academy Award-winning actor George Saunders previewed it in Madrid, Spain, and then returned to his hotel room and shortly afterward committed suicide.
