モダン・ジャズの代表的ドラマー、アート・ブレイキー率いるジャズの名門バンド、アート・ブレイキー&ザ・ジャズ・メッセンジャーズが、1982年4月にフランスはストラスブールにて行なったライヴ音源集。この度、ブレイキー家によって慎重に保存されたオリジナル・マスターテープから切り出され、未発表音源を収録。ロンドンにあるギアボックス全真空管式未来アナログ・スタジオでマスタリングを施した、ダブル・ゲートフォールドCD仕様となっている。同作はブランチャード/ハリソン体制のメッセンジャーズによる最古のフルレングス・ライヴ記録であり、この編成はその後数年間のバンドを定義し、ヤング・ライオンズ運動を単なる復興主義からより深遠な領域へと導く原動力となった。62歳のブレイキーは、決して年齢と共に穏やかになることはなかった。むしろ、その使命にさらに力を注いでいた。「学校には卒業証書を取りに行くものだ」と彼はかつて語った。「俺と一緒に行くのは、教育を受けるためだ」今作はまさに進行中の教育そのもの。生々しく、フィルターのかかっていない、大学が再建されつつあったまさにその瞬間の記録である。
