A heartwarming story of a family full of tears and joy and the people around them. --Rob and Jean are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary in Leith, Scotland. Their son, Davey, and Liz's boyfriend, Allie, return from military service in Afghanistan, and the family is suddenly in a celebratory mood. However, during the family's grand silver wedding party, attended by many relatives and friends, the family is hit by an unexpected crisis. It is discovered that Rob has an illegitimate 24-year-old son. Liz also finds out that Allie has proposed to her, but she chooses her dream of working in faraway Florida over the love she has in front of her. Even as Davie begins a new life with his girlfriend, he realizes that sharing a life together is not all that sweet. A family is troubled, hurt, and falling apart.
