Blackpool Night Out 1964-'65

This title captures the early Beatles live on home soil. Drawn from the special "BLACKPOOL NIGHT OUT" editions of the popular British TV program "BIG NIGHT OUT," held in Blackpool - one of Britain's best known seaside resorts - in 1964 and 1965, these performances are presented here in excellent sound quality. Appropriately for a resort setting, both events took place in summer. First, the August 1, 1965 performance came just after the release of the single "Help!" In addition to "I Feel Fine" and "Ticket To Ride," it also features the very rare live take of "Act Naturally" sung by Ringo. Also included is "Yesterday," performed five days before the album's release, the same live version later seen in the video edition of "Anthology," with Paul singing to his acoustic guitar against an orchestral backing tape. This was also the first live performance of the immortal classic "Yesterday." After Paul finishes, John presents him with a bouquet, only for it to turn out to be nothing but stems, then jokingly cuts through the afterglow with "Thank you, Ringo. Wonderful." That spoken exchange is preserved here as well. The earlier "BLACKPOOL NIGHT OUT" on July 19, 1964 opens with the then new single "A Hard Day's Night," followed by impassioned performances of "Things We Said Today," "You Can't Do That," "If I Fell," and "Long Tall Sally." Apart from "You Can't Do That" and "Long Tall Sally," the set consisted almost entirely of new songs being performed live for the first time, making for a thrilling show charged with both tension and excitement. Rare live recordings from the same period are also included as bonus material. At a time when the Beatles were rapidly ascending to stardom and expanding their activities across the world, performances in their home country were surely something special, irreplaceable live occasions for the band themselves as well. 初期ビートルズの母国でのライヴを収録した本タイトル。英国の人気TV番組『BIG NIGHT OUT』の特別編として、英国きってのリゾート地、ブラックプールで1964年、1965年と2度にわたり開催された『BLACKPOOL NIGHT OUT』でのスペシャル・ライヴから高音質収録。リゾート地ということで夏の開催だが、まず1965年8月1日はシングル「ヘルプ!」の発売直後。「アイ・フィール・ファイン」、「チケット・トゥ・ライド」に加えリンゴが歌う「アクト・ナチュラリー」のライヴテイクは非常に珍しい。そしてアルバム発売の5日前に披露された「イエスタディ」は、アコギ抱えたポールがオーケストラのテープをバックに弾き語りする、映像版『アンソロジー』でも観れたライヴ。天下の大名曲「イエスタディ」の初パフォーマンスでもある。歌い終えたポールにジョンが花束を差し出し、受け取ると枝だけになっているアレ。呆気にとられるポールを見ながらジョンは「サンキュー、リンゴ。ワンダフルだったよ」って茶化しまくって「イエスタディ」の余韻を煙に巻く。その音声ももちろん記録されている。約1年前の1964年7月19日の『BLACKPOOL NIGHT OUT』は、発売直後のシングル『ア・ハード・デイズ・ナイト』からライヴがスタートし、「今日の誓い」、「ユー・キャント・ドゥ・ザット」、「恋におちたら」、「のっぽのサリー」と熱演。「ユー・キャント・ドゥ・ザット」と「のっぽのサリー」以外は、ライヴとしては初演奏の新曲ばかり。緊張と興奮が混ざったスリリングなライヴ。さらには同時期の貴重ライヴも追加収録。この時期、一気にスターダムへ駆け上ったビートルズは、海外公演も増え世界的な活動を展開する中で、母国での演奏は、やはり特別。自分たちにとってもかけがえのないライヴ・ステージだっただろう。熱き貴重なライヴ・パフォーマンス。詳細な日本語ライナーノーツ封入。
