誰も気づかない、誰も信じない― この恐怖は悪夢か、現実か。「アバター」や「スカイラインー征服」をなどを手掛けたストラウス兄弟の第一級の心理(サイコ)スリラー。2011年5月の第64回カンヌ国際映画祭において批評家週間グランプリをはじめとする3冠を制覇した話題作。――巨大竜巻、黄色い雨、空を覆う黒鳥の大群・・・。その悪夢はある日突然始まったー。田舎町の工事現場で働くカーティス(マイケル・シャノン)は、耳の不自由な娘ハンナと妻サマンサ(ジェシカ・チャステイン)と慎ましくも幸せに暮らしていたが、ある時を境に、たびたび大災害の悪夢に悩まされるようになる。 そのあまりに恐ろしいイメージは日ごとにリアルさを増していき、やがてその恐怖に取り憑かれてしまうカーティス。近いうちに必ずや地球規模の天災が発生すると信じてやまない彼は、家の近くに深く穴を掘り、避難用シェルター作りに没頭し始めるが、家族や友人はまったく彼の行動に理解を示さず、むしろ不信感を募らせる一方だった・・・。果たして、カーティスの常軌を逸した言動は哀れな妄想なのか、それとも・・・。
