Hanaiti Monme

[Machine Translation] Grandpa breaks down. The family war begins... A blurred, regretful, human tragicomedy (drama) that won the Best Picture Award at the 9th Japan Academy Prize. Director Toshiya Ito tackles a major social problem facing Japan, the kingdom of longevity, head-on in this super-problematic film. Through the inevitable "aging" and the gradual onset of "blurring," the film depicts the turmoil of a family dealing with an elderly person with blurred vision, and the strength and fragility of family ties. Fuyukichi Takano, an archaeologist and former university professor, is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Beginning with mild dizziness and numbness in his arms and legs, he becomes extremely forgetful, unable to recognize the faces and names of his family members, and eventually becomes incontinent, wandering, delusional, and other symptoms of dementia. Finally, he becomes incontinent, wanders around, and delusional. The story is a human tragicomedy, centering on the eldest son's wife, Keiko, who struggles to take care of her father-in-law who has become a blur, and describes the reactions of each and every family member with tears, laughter, emotion, and shock. In addition to Yukiyo Juju as the daughter-in-law Keiko, veteran actor Minoru Chiaki takes on the role of Fuyukichi, an archaeologist who is becoming a bit of a blur. He was hospitalized in real life after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage caused by high blood pressure, and he has won numerous awards for his powerful performance, which draws on his experience.
