[追悼・千葉真一] 『服部半蔵影の軍団』(80年)、『影の軍団II』(81年)に続き、1982年に放送された人気時代劇シリーズ第3弾。主演はもちろん前2作と同様、千葉真一。四代将軍・家綱の治世を舞台に、多羅尾半蔵が率いる「影の軍団」が、将軍職を狙う紀州藩主・徳川光貞とその一派の前に立ちはだかる。第2クールでは新たに秋野暢子、中村晃子、河原崎建三がレギュラーに加わり、さらに激しくなる戦いを盛り上げた。一方で、もはやシリーズの定番となった千葉と樹木希林(「鶴の湯」女主人・おりん役)のコミカルなやりとりも絶好調。そして終盤では、先が読めない展開の中で、軍団メンバーたちの壮絶なる最期が描かれていく。――時は四代将軍・徳川家綱の治世。紀州藩主・徳川光貞が将軍職を狙って暗躍していた。出家して「千愁尼」となった前将軍・家光の正室、本理院孝子から雇われた多羅尾半蔵ら「影の軍団」は、光貞の陰謀に立ち向かっていく。戦いの中、猪之吉が命を落としたが、新たな仲間を加え、軍団の活躍は続くのである。
