前田敦子×高良健吾×原案: 川端康成 最高のキャスト、スタッフで描き出す文豪・川端康成の世界観。突然舞い込んできた、高校時代の同級生の訃報――。卒業から10年、久しぶりに顔を合わせた面々は、これまで見たことも聞いたこともない奇想天外なお通夜を開くことにする。シングルマザーの主人公・雪子を演じるのは、実生活でもママとなり『旅のおわり世界のはじまり』が公開された前田敦子。『Seventh Code』以来、5年ぶりの映画主演を務める今回は、女手一つで息子を育てる母親・雪子を逞しく、そして深遠に演じている。雪子達同級生を不思議な一夜に巻き込む豊川役に、数々の映画賞に輝いた『悼む人』『きみはいい子』などで常に鮮烈な印象を与え、『多十郎殉愛記』『アンダー・ユア・ベッド』等主演作が相次ぐ高良健吾。主人公達の同級生で中心的人物である吉田役に、映画・ドラマとブレイク中の白洲迅。本作脚本のモチーフである川端康成の世界を象徴する謎の女役に日本映画界の至宝・有馬稲子。映画評論家として知られる樋口尚文監督の劇場用映画第2作目となる本作は、ノーベル文学賞受賞作家・川端康成の作品を原案に、川端康成が18歳まで過ごした大阪府茨木市で撮影。川端の学び舎である茨木高校の後輩である大野裕之(『太秦ライムライト』脚本・プロデューサー)が脚本を執筆した。日本を代表する実力派の俳優とスタッフが結集し、川端文学の豊潤な世界を笑いと涙を織り交ぜて描きあげる人間ドラマが完成した。
