Sign Of The Pagan

[Machine Translation] Tyranny and cruelty! When the army of Attila the Great, an Asiatic barbarian, approached Rome, a warrior saved the city of culture from a crisis! --In 450 A.D., soon after the Roman Empire declared Christianity as the state religion, the Empire was divided into East and West, and Eastern Rome, with its capital in Constantinople, was about to become independent from the Roman Emperor. The weakening of the empire was immediately embraced by the pagan tribes of the Near East, especially Attila (Jacques Palance), king of the Huns, who swept through Asia with a ferocious army at the time, and who had organized a large army of pagan tribes to invade Europe and capture Rome. Attila's army, bearing the banner of a skull, captures the Roman centurion Marcianus ( Jeff Chandler ) in a village. Marcianus is on a mission from the emperor to persuade the emperor Theodosius to desist from independence. This is the second Cinemascope film from Universal Pictures. Set against the backdrop of a time when the Roman Empire was divided in two, this epic tale is based on the European expedition of Attila, king of the Huns and their princes. The story centers on Attila's passionate ambition to conquer Rome, and depicts the romance between a young centurion and the emperor's sister. Directed by Douglas Sirk, a master of melodrama. This is the first soft release of the film. The film was shot in CinemaScope, but the existing master is 4:3 letterboxed, so when played back on a TV monitor, black tones will appear on the top, bottom, left and right sides of the screen. Please understand this in advance.
