ROSE RED Special Edition

Originally Stephen King was asked by Steven Spielberg to come up with the ultimate haunted house story which he started writing and this eventually became "Rose Red." Meanwhile Spielberg got an idea to produce an fx-oriented remake of "The Haunting," and King decided to developed his own show based on his story which became this excellent miniseries. Although both films share a similar premise and mise en scene, Rose Red is much scarier since it's more character + situation driven than the other film. Veteran actors Julian Sands and Kevin Tighe are among its excellent cast that also includes Nancy Travis (So I Married an Axe Murderer), Matt Keeslar (TV's Dune), Melanie Lynskey (who was mesmerisingly brilliant in Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures), and David Dukes who unfortunately passed away during the filming of this movie. The filmmakers even considered to hire another actor to complete the film but wisely decided to use every footage they had so far of him to honor the actor's memory, and they did so by relegating some of his unfinished parts to other actors. They did this so well that you wouldn't even notice. The 2-disc set contains the entire movie.
