This film is not just your regular cutesy animal movie. It's a remarkable film about a boy named Marty (Blake Heron) and a dog he names "Shiloh" and their friendship, while at the same time it deals with difficult issues pertaining to responsibility, honesty, and priorities that us adults have to deal with. Based on the novel of the same title by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. The cast is also first-rate including such excellent but ever under-appreciated actors like Michael Moriarty (Pale Rider, Along Came a Spider) and Scott Wilson (See the absolutely brilliant "The Ninth Configuration" directed by William Peter Blatty if you get a chance... you won't regret it!), and the legendary Rod Steiger.
