The 2K restored version (*4K scan - 2K restoration) new master supervised by cameraman Rokuo Naganuma was used for this film. 相米慎二監督(『セーラー服と機関銃』『台風クラブ』ほか)の隠れた傑作。本編は、長沼六男キャメラマン監修の2K修復版 (※4Kスキャン→2K修復) ニューマスターを使用。プロレスラーの武藤敬司が主役を演じるほか、ミュージシャンの秋吉満ちる(Monday満ちる)、安田成美、すまけい、柴田理恵、長塚京三など、多彩で個性的なキャストが顔を揃える。原作は、第11回泉鏡花賞を受賞した小檜山博の同名小説。音楽は、多方面で活躍する作曲家の三枝成彰が担当。――北海道の山奥から、熊のような大男・松波仙作が東京にやってきた。結婚の約束をしたまま帰ってこない幼馴染の栗子を連れ戻しに来たのだ。仙作は歌声に導かれて、芳乃と尻内という男女と知り合う。芳乃は、命がけの死闘を見世物にしながら、アリアを聞かせる怪しげなクラブ『ジョコンダ』の歌手である。尻内は『ジョコンダ』のマネージャーであり、芳乃のスポンサーでもある中年男であった。仙作は栗子の居所を尻内から聞き出すために、自ら死闘を演じることとなるのだが・・・。95分を超える映像を収録した特典ディスク付き(既発DVDと同内容)。映画ジャーナリスト金原由佳による新たに関係者に取材し書き下ろした原稿を含めた豪華48P(予定)の解説書を封入。アウターケース付き。
