[Machine Translation] Formed in 2003 mainly by Waseda University club members. Based on a groovy reggae-based sound, this debut mini-album features vocalist Mai's innocent and clear voice with gentle Japanese melodies. The album is full of POP tunes that will appeal to more than just reggae listeners. The members are Takune Hirose, leader of the reggae band "K.P.M.," which released its second album in the summer and is gaining momentum, Takune Hirose, leader of the singing ska band "What's Love? The group is full of leaders. They are featuring the vocalist, Mai, who is the only one in red. Dancehall reggae has been in full swing nationwide for the past few years, and there is a bit of a reggae band boom in the Shimokita area, not to mention Spinna B-ill & The Cavemans, TUFF SESSION, TETSUNIQUES, and others. Pilika is a cute four-piece group that is at the forefront of the reggae scene. In the male-dominated reggae scene, vocalist Mai's freshness stands out as the exception among the exceptions. The first track on this recording has a happy, dancehall-style beat, but the whole song is a gentle, organic reggae groove. The fifth track is an Ainu folk song, which the band also performs at the opening of their live shows. The band's name "Pilika" means "beautiful and good" in Ainu language. As mentioned above, the band's activities are centered in the music districts of Shimokitazawa, Shibuya, and Kichijoji. The band has played with Hideaki Konno, formerly of Rockin' Time, Pomeranians, Yaho! Bando, and others, the group is rapidly gaining recognition. 2003年に早稲田大学のサークルを中心に結成。レゲエをベースとしたグルービーなサウンドをベースに、ボーカル麻衣のイノセントで透明感溢れる歌声を、やさしい日本語のメロディーにのせたデビューミニアルバム。レゲエリスナー以上の多くの人に気に入ってもらえるPOPチューンが満載。メンバーは夏に2nd Albumをリリースし勢いに乗るレゲエバンド"K.P.M."のリーダー廣瀬拓音を中心に、歌謡スカバンドとして名を馳せる"What's Love?"のリーダーAGがドラム、ギターの山本創もインストバンド"nenem"を率いて活動するリーダーだらけのグループ。彼らが紅一点、ボーカリストの麻衣ちゃんを大フィーチャーしている。ここ数年、全国的にはダンスホールレゲエの全盛が続いているが、Spinna B-ill&The CavemansやTUFF SESSION、TETSUNIQUESなどを引き合いにだすまでもなく、下北界隈では、ちょっとしたレゲエバンドブーム。その中でも更にシーンの先端をいくキュートな4人組がピリカ。男だらけのレゲエシーンにあって例外中の例外ともいえる程、ボーカル麻衣の初々しさは際立っている。今回のレコーディングでは1曲目にダンスホール調のハッピーな打ち込みトラックも取り入れたが、全体を貫くのはゆるやかでオーガニックなレゲエのグルーブ。また5曲目にはライブのオープニングでも披露しているアイヌ民謡も取り入れている。バンド名のピリカとはアイヌ語で「美しい・良い」といった意味。前述の通り、活動の中心は下北沢、渋谷、吉祥寺といった音楽の街。元ロッキンタイムの今野英明や、ポメラニアンズ、やっほー!ばんど、などと対バンするなかで、急速に知名度を上げている。オーガニックやスローライフが時代のキーワードになっている今、彼らの音楽も聞き逃せないのでは?
