明治～昭和に掛けての日本を代表する画家・詩人のひとりであった"竹下夢二"による大正時代の歌曲「宵待草」 (作曲: 多忠亮)。この歌曲をテーマに舟木一夫が歌とナレーションで組曲「宵待草」として構成。当時、A面、B面合わせて30分を越える組曲となったアルバム。一昨年、一度だけステージで「宵待草」を全篇歌唱し、以後CD化を求める声が多く寄せらせ待望の初CD化。今回はボーナストラックとして、昭和47年6月に発売した組曲「日本の四季」をオリジナル音源で収録。こちらも、一昨年にステージ披露し絶賛された20分に迫る大曲。
