大都会東京に埋もれた民謡を復活させ、地元の人達に歌い継いで貰おうと立ち上がった、その名のとおりの「東京の民謡を歌い継ぐ会」。彼らが主催する都内縦断の公演、「どっこい生きてる東京民謡」公演が昭和59年に始まって今年で満25年を迎える。その間に二百数十曲もの楽曲を復曲するなどの活動を展開、その25年を記念して、「東京の民謡～蘇える昭和初期の唄～」を発売。今回は、江戸川区あたりで歌われた「朝の出がけ」、また、昭和8年頃、伊豆七島の神津島で大島の大漁節に魅せられて作られた「神津大漁節」の他、「幻の新宿音頭」と新聞紙上でも取り上げられ、後に西條八十、作詞・中山晋平、作曲で昭和9年に作られたことが判明し、今では、花園神社の盆踊りでも唄い踊られるようになった「新宿音頭」を始め、昭和７年、王子町と岩淵町が合併して東京市に編入されたのを記念して作られた「王子小唄」、桜で有名な飛鳥山を歌った「飛鳥山音頭」、それに「東京音頭」の元唄とも称され、毎年、日比谷公園での大盆踊り大会でも歌い踊られている「丸の内音頭」 (作詞、西條八十・作曲、中山晋平)の6曲が収められ、なつかしい昭和初期の古き良き時代が忍ばれる作品。
