Afternoons at The Library

[Machine Translation] London artist Sun Drawing (a.k.a. Matt Ashton, guitarist for the drone-pop band The Leaf Library) recorded a series of tracks during the summer of 2023. The result of these sessions is Aamut Kirjastossa ("Morning at the Library"), an album of dreamy, faint, delicate sound sketches that combine acoustic guitar, piano, and field recordings from various parts of the city. Its first connection from Finland to the UK spread to Japan in 2024. While Sun Drawing's album is called Aamut Kirjastossa ("Library Morning"), this collaborative album is called Afternoons At The Library ("Afternoons At The Library"), a reference to the time difference between Europe and Japan. The album depicts the two artists finding space in each other's sound, expressing their individual and musical identities, and merging them together.

ロンドンのアーティスト、Sun Drawing (a.k.a.ドローン・ポップバンド、The Leaf Libraryのギタリスト、Matt Ashton)が、2023年の夏に一連のトラックを録音。これらのセッションの結果として生まれたのが、アコースティックギター、ピアノ、そして街の様々な場所でのフィールド録音を組み合わせた、夢のように淡く繊細な音のスケッチをまとめたアルバム『Aamut Kirjastossa (図書館の朝)』。そのフィンランドから英国への最初のつながりが、2024年には日本へと広がった。福岡を拠点とするエクスペリメンタル/ポストロックバンド"SEA LEVEL"の協力によるもの。Sun Drawingのアルバムは『Aamut Kirjastossa (図書館の朝)』であるのに対して、今回のコラボアルバムは、ヨーロッパと日本の時差にちなんで『Afternoons At The Library (図書館の午後)』と名付けられた。2組のアーティストがお互いの音の中に空間を見つけ、それぞれや音楽的アイデンティティを表現しながら融合していく様子が描かれている。
