Reese (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), a young U.S. embassy official in France, is engaged in a steady intelligence work, dreaming of a glamorous career as an agent. However, his life changes drastically when he is teamed up with Wax (John Travolta), a highly skilled CIA agent who comes to Paris on a drug investigation. Wax, who has never shot a man before, is stunned by Wax's willingness to fire a gun without telling him whether he wants to or not. Their investigation is a bit uneventful, but they soon learn that an assassination attempt is being planned on a key U.S. government official visiting France.
