[高倉健生誕90周年記念] 灼きつける大阿蘇の太陽直下、迫力ひろげる網走シリーズ第9弾! 網走帰りの流れ者・橘真一は、その気軽さから鬼寅の招きに応じて、ふらり九州へ。久しぶりに会った鬼寅は、病気で倒れた友人に代わって、不良少年保護施設の寮で働いていた。橘は早速、鬼寅の助手として少年たちの世話をすることになり、少年たちとの共同生活が始まった。作業場から姿を消した少年たちの一人・武を追った橘は彼の生い立ちを知り、自分の過去に重ね胸を詰まらせる。橘はカタギとして生きていくよう武を説得し義兄弟の契りを結ぶが、盃を交わさせ利用しようとしていた地元の門馬組が武をさらう。熾烈なリンチに見舞われた武は、助けに訪れた橘の腕の中で息を引き取る。熱気溢れる祭りの最中、橘はドスを片手に殴り込みをかける! 博多の繁華街、若松の炭住街、阿蘇の大火山を舞台に、高倉健扮する橘真一が大暴れ! 祗園山笠祭りの真っ只中、血みどろのクライマックスへと突き進んでいく。
