Description

Set in the near future, Japan has an aging society with a declining birthrate, and a social system called "Plan 75" comes into effect, giving people the right to choose life and death from the age of 75. Using this fictional system as a medium, a shocking film was born that asks all generations to consider the ultimate theme of "life". Directed and written by Chie Hayakawa, who shot the short film "PLAN75," the starting point for this film, in the omnibus film "10 Nen Ten Years Japan" released in 2018, under the overall supervision of Hirokazu Koreeda. This is her first feature film as a director, but it was officially entered in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2022 Cannes International Film Festival and received the Camera d'Or Special Mention. Starring Chieko Baisho.

少子高齢化社会が一層進んだ近い将来の日本で、満75歳から生死の選択権を与える社会制度＜プラン75＞が施行された。この架空の制度を媒介に、「生きる」という究極のテーマを全世代に問いかける衝撃作が誕生した! 監督・脚本は是枝裕和監督が総合監修を務め、2018年に公開されたオムニバス映画『十年 Ten Years Japan』で本作の出発点である短編『PLAN75』を撮った早川千絵。その短編からキャストを一新し、物語を再構築した本作が長編初監督作ながら、2022年カンヌ国際映画祭「ある視点」部門正式出品、カメラドール特別表彰という快挙を成し遂げた。 夫と死別し、長年一人で暮らしてきた主人公・角谷ミチを演じるのは、名優・倍賞千恵子。セリフで多くを語るのではなく、目や手の動きだけで哀しみや恐れなどの感情を繊細に表現した。若い世代のヒロムと瑶子を『ヤクザと家族 The Family』(21)の磯村勇斗、『由宇子の天秤』(21)の河合優実が演じ、たかお鷹やステファニー・アリアン、大方斐紗子、串田和美らが顔を揃える。年齢による命の線引きというセンセーショナルなテーマを打ち出しつつ、細やかな演出で、この世界を懸命に生きる人々を丁寧に描いた本作。ここに映し出される状況は絵空事と言い切れない。他者への不寛容さや痛みに対する想像力を欠いた世の中への危機感とともに、命の尊さを静かに、そして強く訴える。
