TV版「超時空要塞マクロス」放映から20年。河森正治監督の新構想によるプロトカルチャー遺跡を巡る戦いを描く"マクロス"前史! 第1巻にも増して大迫力の戦闘シーン満載で贈る。空前の大ヒット作、待望の第2巻!! ――敵機に撃墜された統合軍のパイロット・工藤シンは、南海の孤島・マヤン島で穏やかなひと時を過ごしていた。そんなある日、シンは自らのF-14を撃墜した敵可変戦闘機と統合軍の可変戦闘機の戦闘に出くわす。島の娘・マオを助けようと島の中央へと向かうシン。上空では、可変戦闘機同士が壮絶な戦いを繰り広げていた。その時、シンの目の前に統合軍側の可変戦闘機"VF-0"が不時着してきた。果たして、この戦いの行方は? そして"プロトカルチャー"の遺跡とは? 激しい戦闘と謎が交錯する中、シンは撃墜された"VF-0"に飛び乗るのであった!
