    A great classic 5

This is the uncut version of Violence Jack - Evil Town. About 10 years ago I got the english version which was still pretty bloody but it was heavily cut. This version only has mosaics during sex scenes.

    Good Presentation, Mediocre OVA 3

The cover art is colorful and appealing and the video is very sharp, detailed, and clean with only a handful of instances of interlacing artifacts and break-up. The stereo sound is clear(albeit somewhat low from time to time, making it difficult to hear some scenes of dialogue) without dropouts and other such issues associated with audio. Overall, a solid technical presentation. The actual OVA itself, is a slightly different story. While the OVA features voice acting from well known Japanese voice over artists like Kobayashi Kiyoshi and Chiba Shigeru and above average animation, it's still hindered by its writing, which leaves much to be desired. It takes several liberties with Go Nagai's original story, and none of them(in my opinion) are for the better good. There is no real emotional "connection" to be had with any of the characters because much of their characterization has been omitted in place of unneccessary exploitative scenes of violence and sex, souring what could have been an entertaining thrill with tasteless "shock" tricks. A disappointing animation overall, with a few entertaining action sequences amongst the mediocrity and tastelessness. Only for die-hard Nagai fans.
