ナチスが略奪したエゴン・シーレの傑作絵画「ひまわり」。名画を巡る駆け引きの行方を、実話を基に描く感動作! 名画が試すのは、美の眼か? 欲の心か? ――パリのオークション・ハウスで働く有能な競売人アンドレは、エゴン・シーレと思われる絵画の鑑定を受ける。シーレほどの有名な作家の絵画はここ30年程、市場には出ていない為、当初は贋作と疑ったアンドレは、元妻で相棒のベルティナと共に、絵が見つかったフランス東部の工業都市ミュルーズを訪れる。その絵が見つかったのは、化学工場で夜勤労働者として働く青年マルタンと母親が二人で暮らす質素な家だった。明らかに芸術とは無縁の親子が保管していたその絵画を目の前にして、アンドレとベルティナは思わず笑いだしてしまう。そうそれは間違いなくエゴン・シーレの傑作絵画「ひまわり」だったのだ。思いがけなく見つかったシーレの絵画をオークションにかける為、アンドレは策を施して動き出すのだが、そのオークションを前に様々な妨害工作をかけられてしまい・・・。
