About the Author

Laid-back Camp, which is an iyashikei (sub-genre of the slice-of-life manga) manga series that already has two seasons of anime series, a short spin-off series, an anime movie, several video games, and a live-action tv series, is going to have a season 3 in April 2024. Personally, as a fan of laid-back camp, I can't wait to see which delicious foods and charming locations are going to be in the new season of the anime series.

What is Laid-Back Camp?

Rin Shima (a.k.a Shimarin or Rin-chan), who is a keen solo camper, meets a very frightened hungry young girl while camping in the winter. After their interesting encounter, she learns that her name is Nadeshiko, and she has moved to the area recently. After Rin gives Nadeshiko some enthusiasm about camping, she learns that they are in the same high school. Nadeshiko immediately joins the Outdoor Exploration Club and hopes for Rin to join as well, but for Rin, who likes her freedom and solo camping, that won't be easy. We follow Rin and Club Members (Nadeshiko Kagamihara, a.k.a. Fujiko, Chiaki Ōgaki, a.k.a Aki, Aoi Inuyama, a.k.a Inuko) while they are visiting different campsites and places around the Fuji Five Lake in Japan and enjoy tasting local foods.

What We Know About Season 3 So Far

The production company of the Laid-back Camp anime series has changed. So do the director and the character designer. The new anime studio is 8-Bit. The new director of the laid-back camp anime in season 3 is going to be Shin Tosaka, who is best known for his work in The Slime Diaries: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and the new character designer is Hisanori Hashimoto, who is known for his work in Attack on Titan. But as you may see in the teaser below, the characters don't look much different than in manga.

The teaser shows Rin Shima as she is enjoying the view of Mount Fuji, Nadeshiko, Chiaki, and Aoi while drinking coffee from a can in the club room and eating sausage while camping.

The opening theme song is performed by Kimi no Ne. The ending theme song of season 3 will be sung by Asaka.

Although there are some scenes original to the laid-back camp anime series, the first season was based on the contents of volumes 1 to 4 of the manga, and the second season was based on the contents of volumes 5 to 9. So we can only assume that we can watch the story from volumes 10 to 15 in the new season. This will be a spoiler for people who haven't read the manga yet. We can expect to watch a backyard BBQ, a camping road trip to Oi River and see Ryōgoku Tsuribashi Bridge, the view of cherry blossoms in the spring. When the new semester starts, it could be a good chance to find new members for the outdoor club.

What Can We Do While Waiting For The New Season

If you watched this anime and became a fan of it like me, you also probably want to go camping at some point, especially in the winter. Well, if you want some ideas till the new season begins in 2024, here are a few ideas for you in our article: Experience a Laid-Back Camp!

Mono by Afro

Do you know there is another relaxing manga from Afro? Since we love laid-back camp so much, I would like to mention another work of Afro, which is called Mono. There have been three volumes released since 2017, and you can purchase Mono in Japanese at CDJAPAN. (There isn't any translated version yet, anyway. But this can be your chance to practice Japanese. If you need some help, please check our article. Let's Practice Japanese With Laid-Back Camp
The story of Mono is about three high school students in the Cinephoto Club (Photography and Cinema Club). They say even Rin and Nadeshiko make a cameo appearance. And like in the Laid-back Camp, they visit real-life locations in Japan.
