In the late 1960s through the early 1970s, Donovan became hugely popular as a truly one-of-a-kind singer-songwriter. 2025 marks the 60th anniversary of his debut, and next year (2026) marks the 80th anniversary of his birth. To commemorate these milestones, these classic titles are being reissued for the first time in cardboard-sleeve (mini LP) editions. Four of them faithfully replicates the original U.S. A-style LP packaging while SICP-31847 and SICX-30261 faithfully replicates the Japanese A-style LP packaging. Each release includes a replica Japanese LP. The titles are newly remastered in 2026 and released on Blu-spec CD2. Each comes with new liner notes, along with lyrics and Japanese translations.

Donovan: 6 Blu-spec CD2 Mini LP Reissues

"Sunshine Superman"

This album, "Sunshine Superman," was Donovan's first album for Epic and features the U.S. No. 1 title track as well as "Season of the Witch," a song that inspired numerous cover versions. Breaking away from his earlier folk-singer image, Donovan fused medieval-themed lyrics with elements of Celtic folk music, rooted in his own heritage, and Indian music, helping to pioneer the emerging psychedelic era. Jimmy Page, then still working as a session guitarist, also contributed. The album peaked at No. 11 in the U.S.

"Mellow Yellow"

On "Mellow Yellow," Donovan, newly embraced as a poster figure for the flower-child generation following the success of "Sunshine Superman," pushed his music further by incorporating jazz elements and broadening his stylistic range. At the same time, the album reveals flashes of introspection, reflecting his discomfort with being turned into a pop idol. It features contributions from John Paul Jones and Paul McCartney. Included are the title track, which reached No. 2 in the U.S., and "House of Jansch," dedicated to Bert Jansch. The album peaked at No. 14 in the U.S.

"A Gift From A Flower To A Garden"

"A Gift from a Flower to a Garden" is Donovan's ambitious double album. The two discs present contrasting sides of his vision: the first is an electric set aimed at young adults of his own generation, many of whom were entering a new stage of life, while the second, "For Little Ones," is an acoustic work dedicated to children who would inherit the future. The spiritual influence of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, to whom Donovan was deeply drawn at the time, can be felt throughout the project. The album peaked at No. 19 in the U.S. While some previous CD editions condensed the material onto a single disc, this reissue restores Donovan's intended two-disc format.

"The Hurdy Gurdy Man"

"The Hurdy Gurdy Man" was largely developed after Donovan traveled to India with The Beatles to study Transcendental Meditation under Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Rich in variety, the album blends psychedelic, jazz, traditional, Latin, and Indian influences with Donovan's hushed, intimate vocals. It includes the advance single "Jennifer Juniper," which reached No. 26 in the U.S., as well as the title track, a major hit that reached No. 5 in the U.S. The album itself peaked at No. 20 in the U.S.

"Barabajagal"

"Barabajagal" was created after Donovan abandoned the children's folk album "Moon in Capricorn," which had been partially completed, and made a decisive change in direction. The resulting album, which closes out the 1960s, grew from sessions with the Jeff Beck Group, Lesley Duncan, Madeline Bell, and Suzi Quatro, as well as recordings featuring musicians such as Danny Thompson, Jim Gordon, Harold McNair, and Alan Hawkshaw. It includes "Atlantis," which reached No. 7 in the U.S., and the title track, which reached the U.S. Top 40. The album peaked at No. 23 in the U.S.

"Live In Japan: Spring Tour 1973"

"Live in Japan: Spring Tour 1973" is a live album released only in Japan, documenting Donovan's performances at Osaka Festival Hall on March 25, 1973, and Osaka Koseinenkin Kaikan on March 26. It includes songs from the then newly released "Cosmic Wheels," material that would later appear on "Essence to Essence," and rarities such as "Working Man" and "Tinker Tune," which are heard here in unique live versions. This reissue also includes "Yellow Star," the tour documentary filmed during Donovan's stay in Japan, which was previously bundled with the 2023 official-site-only 50th anniversary edition. First Japanese CD release.
