世界規模での活躍を続ける上原ひろみ、待望の新作は、『プレイス・トゥ・ビー』 (2009年)以来10年ぶりとなるソロ・ピアノ・アルバム。"色彩"をテーマに書き下ろされた新曲7曲に加え、ザ・ビートルズ「ブラックバード」とジョージ・ガーシュウィン「ラプソディ・イン・ブルー」のカヴァーを収録。かつてない美しいピアノの響きと、圧倒的なスケール感と深みを感じさせるパフォーマンス。アルバム・タイトル曲の「スペクトラム」は2018年末に「NHK BS4K・BS8K」のPR映像にて演奏されていたナンバー。また「カレイドスコープ」、「ワンス・イン・ア・ブルー・ムーン」は4月からスタートしたテレビ東京「新・美の巨人たち」のオープニング&エンディング・テーマに起用。「ラプソディ・イン・ヴァリアス・シェイズ・オブ・ブルー」は、「ラプソディ・イン・ブルー」にジョン・コルトレーン「ブルー・トレイン」とザ・フー「ビハインド・ブルー・アイズ」を織り込んだ、22分46秒に及ぶ大曲。ピアニストとしても作編曲家としても、さらなる高みに達したことを証明する、"上原ひろみのキャリア最高傑作"と断言できる作品。
