Have You Ever Been Experienced? SHM-CD Compilation: Rock Edition [SHM-CD] [Limited Release]

I have bought several of these SHM-CDs. DON HEALEY [Greatest Hits] , STEELY DAN [Aja] and BRYAN ADAMS [So Far , So Good]. All of these CDs were excellent sounding re-masters that I owned , before. When I compared these older re-mastered CDs with the new , SHM versions , on my 5.1 stereo , the SHM versions sounded 100 times better. They were NOT any louder than the older re-masters but the SHM-CDs versions offered much greater balance between the instruments / vocals and they sounded much richer all around. No compression issues at all. The SHM-CDs , are well worth the price and I can't wait for , LED ZEPPELIN , in the SHM-CD format.

The purpose of this two cd collection is to provide a comparrison of listening to a standard redbook cd and listening to the same music on an SHM CD. I used a Jeff Rowland model 302 Amplifier with Audio research preamp and cd player (both Tube). The speakers were JM Lab Utopia. I chose only three of the 17 songs to review as I am very familiar with the songs from my youth. Maggie May by Rod Stewart, All Right Now by Free and Joy to the World by Three Dog Night. Frankly, my ears favour the original CD versions in all three cases. The SHM shows louder gain ( sound) but on Maggie May that translated in to bass that blew away Rod Stewarts vocals. Free lost definition on the SHM version but of course were louder. ( one can always raise the volume rather than have it forced on you). Joy to the World found the closest of three songs in both formats. Conclusion: In my opinion the traditional redbook cd has not been improved by the SHM. In fact, the SHM, provides a more difficult to listen to version, and less similiar to the original recording. I would like to read your opinion.
