62年作品。ボブ・ディランの記念すべきデビュー・アルバム。CBSの名物プロデューサーであったジョン・ハモンドが制作にあたり、'61年11月20日と22日の僅か二日間で録音。ここに収められた13曲は、自作の2曲を除くと全てカヴァー曲のためソングライターとしてのディランの魅力を知るには物足りないかも。しかしながらここに並んでいる曲の数々は、ブラインド・レモン・ジェファーソン、ブッカ・ホワイトといったブルースシンガーの曲やトラディショナルに始まり同時代のフォークシンガーの歌に至るまでと、雄弁にディランのルーツと今を物語っている。一方で、自作曲はウディ・ガスリーへの敬愛振りが素直に出た内容に仕上がった。従来からのものさしでは計れない表現力を持った歌唱や多彩なギター演奏も今作の魅力!
