For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge is quintessential Van Halen at the peak of their powers with Sammy Hagar. The album contains some the band's best tracks of their entire career: Poundcake, Judgement Day (highly underrated), In'n' Out, Right Now, Dream Another Dream and Top of the World. The album, produced by Led Zeppelin's longtime producer Andy Johns and co-produced by Ted Templeman, has a larger than life sound to it, thanks to Johns, that no other Van Halen album has. I think this is easily Van Halen's best sounding record. You can clearly hear Mike's thunderous bass, Alex's drums have never sounded better, Eddie is on fire (thanks to retiring his old Marshall amp for new gear) and Hagar sounds like he's in the room with you singing live. What an album! Instrument spacing and dynamic range sound amazing here, especially at the MQA native 24bit/96kHz disc layer. Plus, the mini LP packaging is awesome and is of the high quality collectors like myself have become spoiled by with these superior Japanese releases.
