I agree with previous reviewer Jim, however the sound on this isn't bad. I have the HDCD version and i compared it with this SHM release. First off i have a HDCD cd player and if i'm not mistaken you need to have a HDCD player in order to receive the benefits of HDCD sound. So if you don't have a HDCD player this Japanese release isn't bad at all, the sound on it is definitly better than the regular old redbook 1990 release. Comparing this Mini LP SHM-CD with the HDCD, the Mini LP is slightly louder than the HDCD, and i may give the slight nod to HDCD in the balance of sound...but even still it's very close. I'm still torn between the HDCD and this SHM-CD of which i like better, the SHM mastering does have a nice smoothness in the sound so it's still enjoyable to listen to. If all you have is the old redbook version and don't have a HDCD player than this version here is definitly worth picking up if you are a Cars fan. The Mini LP and inner sleeve replica are awesome!

I have compared this SHM remastered version to the U.S. HDCD version from a few years ago. I am really disappointed that this is a casualty of compression. It does have the normal smooth SHM sound. The U.S. HDCD sounds much more full and balanced. That also goes for Candy-O and Panarama. The mini lp design is great. Oddly, the remaining Cars Cd's in the collection do not seem to have this problem.
Yet another winner from WEA , JAPAN. The CARS is made by the same company that gave us those amazing sounding Alice Cooper 2011 / SHM-CDs. WEA JAPAN are back with stellar sounding , CARS / SHM-CDs. These have been remastered recently and you can finally clearly hear the bass and keyboards in perfect balance with everything else. It is slightly louder than the older versions but that just adds to the beauty of it's sound. Crisp and clear is how I like it. I can say the same thing about CANDY-O and HEART BEAT CITY [again , far , far better than the MFSL , version]. Why they don't release these world wide is beyond me?
