After the more-than-excellent "V - The New Mythology Suite", it'll be very difficult doing better and it is the case. With greats "typical" progressive symphonic metal tunes like "Accolade II" and the 24 minute-track "The Odyssey", the rest of the album is near basic speed metal and that's regrettable.

After the "relatively" subdued stylings of 'V', SymX choose a more direct and powerful approach for this sixth recording. But longtime fans can rest assured that the trademark Neo/Progressive (semi-symphonic) pieces are still in place - they're just set a little harder! As usual, the monster guitarwork of Michael Romeo and the vocal firepower of Russell Allen steals the show. In my opinion, every recording from this band, excluding the debut, is worthy of 5 stars; and The Odyssey is certainly no exception!
