      VERY WELL DONE 5

regardless of previous reviews of this record, I still felt Steppenwolf where a force to be reckoned with with this album monster, no it did not pack the punch that the first 3 albums did but still THIS IS A STEPPENWOLF RECORD and it is great and yes it is very political with anti veitnam war songs easpecially from here to there eventually ( the last track) but the new guitar player fit in well I felt, no this record is different then the first 3 but still I feel with a bit of a different guitar approach everything else is still here with the off the wall organ and the energy that came from Steppenwolf, sadley in there carrer Steppenwolf could NEVER top the first 3 studio albums as they where so amazing but I felt monster was there last great ditch effort and for that I felt it came out very good and worthy of a 5 star rating, I really enjoyed hearing this again for it had been a while and as with all of these you just cant beat the shm mastering and the cardboard replica lp sleeve that only the Japanese record companies can do so well.

      Steppenwolf - Monster US 1969 3

Monster is an album by Steppenwolf. Released in 1969, it was their first LP with new lead guitarist, Larry Byrom instead of Michael Monarch. The album was Steppenwolf's most political one, making references to important issues at the time, such as the Vietnam War. Reviews for Monster have generally been negative. Rolling Stone commented that the playing of the individual performers is "top-notch", but that "Their arrangements have become sloppy and crude, as the early-Zappa lyrics continuously clash with the music." The album was the first Steppenwolf album not to feature a US top ten hit, though one single from the album cracked the top 40: "Move Over". Original Tracklist: 01."Monster" (Kay, Edmonton)/"Suicide" (Kay, St. Nicholas, Byrom, Edmonton)/"America" (Kay, Edmonton) ? 9:15 02."Draft Resister" (Kay, McJohn, Byrom) ? 3:20 03."Power Play" (Kay) ? 5:26 04."Move Over" (Kay, Mekler) ? 2:53 05."Fag" (Byrom, Edmonton, St. Nicholas) ? 3:13 06."What Would You Do (If I Did That to You)" (Francen, Porter) ? 3:19 07."From Here to There Eventually" (Kay, McJohn, Edmonton) ? 5:27
