Okay, DIVISION isn't GazettE's best album. I found it to be a compilation of their earlier works into one large album. Traces of DIM and TOXIC stood out best. Basically, it was a dark/electronic album.

It has 3 discs and 2 sides. The GazettE calls the first side (Disc 1) the "Rock" side and the the second (Disc 3) the "Digital" side which really means that Disc 1 has much less digital/electronic elements incorporated into it than Disc 3. Disc 2 is the DVD.

I noticed that the titles of the songs on the "Rock" side were all in Japanese and the titles for the "Digital" side were all in English. I suppose they were trying to say that with the "Digital" side, they utilized the increasingly popular Western style of music called Dubstep (electronic mixing of bass, drums and occasional vocals). The fact that they incorporated Dubstep is even more obvious when you listen to the song "ATTITUDE" which is, of course, on the "Digital" side. Someone actually says the word 'Dubstep' in the background lol~

I'm not really a fan of Dubstep or Electronica but I have to say I liked the "Digital" side better because it contained the harder vocals and heavier guitars. I loved REQUIRED MALFUNCTION, ATTITUDE and GABRIEL ON THE GALLOWS the best off that album.

The "Rock" side which, to me, wasn't very rockin' contained the songs that you swayed to, not headbang. There was a lot of uproar in regards to ; (Yoin) but I dont really see why. It's a nice song but nothing too special. It kind of invoked sad feelings but Aoi has composed better (Like Shiroki Yuutsu. God that song is amazing).

My favorites on the "Rock" side were ; (Yoin) and (Ibitsu).

For the Disc 2, which was the DVD, there were 3 PV's. One for , one for [DIPLOSOMIA] which was an outro for Disc 1 and one for DERANGEMENT which is off the "Digital" side.

The PV is reminiscent of the Remember the Urge and Shiver PV's. It features the members, a lotus flower and the video is in B&W. Nothing too exciting. It was nice and clean and the guys looked great. RUKI said that lyrics were about the music industry and how it has changed.

The Diplosomia PV featured two women walking around in Kimonos looking pretty. It was short (since it's a video for an outro) and was nice.

The DERANGEMENT PV was..well..deranged. To be frank, I didn't like it. Sort of reminded me of Obscure by Dir En Grey which was a very disgusting PV. I don't know what GazettE was thinking when they made the PV because it doesn't fit the lyrics of the song at all.

DIVISION isn't just music and videos alone though. It's divided into 3 fragments, the Vein fragment, Binding Site fragment and Artery fragment. Putting that together, it actually sounds like a heart and it also features tons of photography of the two girls in the [DIPLOSOMIA] PV underwater. There's also some other -rather interesting- artwork.

I didn't exactly get the whole concept of DIVISION but overall it was a good album. The layout is beautiful and the songs are enjoyable. I would put it as my 4th favorite album after Stacked Rubbish, DIM and Nil.

Is it worth the money? Yes. With the amount of effort they put into the album, i.e, the photography, artwork, music and videos and the packaging, it must have been an expensive album to make. They seemed to have been really excited about it as well so yes, it is worth every cent.

No matter what though, I'll love the GazettE and I cant wait to see what they have in store for us.

neolog Division 5

[DIVISION] was released about a year after their last album [TOXIC]. This marks the shortest length between albums released for the band. Because of this I was skeptical about the quality of the album. But, I'm happy to say my expectations were blown.

First, the concept of the album is very well presented: artistically through the booklet, audibly through the music, and visually through the DVD.

The packaging is quite large, weighing a massive 3 lbs. compared to the meager few ounces normal CDS weigh. It's essentially a giant photo book split into 3 sections. But, the GazettE utilized this well by explaining a story about the album through the photos in...chapters (for lack of better word), which are high quality. None of them are of the band though, which I'm fine with.

Simply put, Disc 1 is the non-electronic songs, and Disc 2 is the electronic songs.

Disc 1 brings me back to their past albums, re-incorporating elements from songs like [Dim Scene], [Leech], [Bathroom], and [Calm Envy]. We get the heavy dark guitars of [DIM] in songs like [Yoin], the intricate and warming guitar melodies from [Stacked rubbish] in songs like [Kagefumi], and a nice mix of these elements with their more current sound with songs like [Ibitsu] and [Hedoro].

Disc 2 also has elements that it draws from past albums, but mainly builds more off of [Toxic]. [Dripping Insanity] is the song that perfectly shows this. The melody is very similar to that of [Disterss and Coma] and [Bathroom], but it takes a lot of electronic elements and blends it into the song. Other songs like [Required Malfunction] and [Attitude] take this further with the electronic sounds pushed to even higher depths, and using melodic and stylistic elements from songs like [Tomorrow Never Dies] and [Psychopath]. Overall, it's a much more aggressive disc and contrasts nicely with Disc 1.

The DVD is impressive because not only does it immerse us deeper into the album, but it connects the 2 discs together through the PV for [Diplosomia]. The song itself accomplishes this, but with the abstract and alluring visuals presented by the DVD (and booklet), we're fully drawn into the world of Division.

A couple things I have complaints with: Literally ALL the songs end abruptly. In some songs it works, but in a lot of them it sounds like the song is unfinished (Kagefumi). [Kago no Sanagi]'s chorus, while it works in the song, is a bit bland and generic.
[Attitude]'s chorus is a bit strange too. It took me a few listens to finally bear it and now it sounds fine, but I feel like the melody could be better.

I don't think this is the GazettE's best work. Musically I feel like it falls short in some areas and it isn't the most cohesive because of the concept, which is fine because that's the idea.

But I do think it's one of their most successful albums.
It takes basically all the different styles they've played, all the different techniques, melodies, and effects they've used and combines those into their current style. They've taken their new electronic elements and more deeply implemented it into their music than in [Toxic].

This album is sort of a culmanation of the GazettE's entire history up till now and, being a fan of them since their conception, it invokes feelings of nostalgia and anticipation for their future. I'm impressed that they've thought so deeply about where they've been, where they are now, and where they're headed.

One thing I know for sure: Even with the band's slowly growing transformation, they'll always be the same band I fell in love with.

There are 6 region codes. Typically, DVD players sold in one region is compatible only with DVD titles that are encoded for that region.

Blu-ray

DVD-Audio

SACD (Super Audio CD)

SACDs are playable only on SACD players, and will not play on regular CD players. On the other hand, SACD Hybrid disc has a layer that is playable also on regular CD payers. Such titles are indicated as "Format: SACD-Hybrid" in item details page.
