ボブ・ディランの1978年作品。日本、オーストラリア、ニュージーランドを廻ったツアーの後、ディランがバック・メンバーと共にスタジオ入りし完成させたアルバム。ツアー・バンドと息の合った演奏を随所で聴かせる一方、サックスや女性コーラスの多用によりポップなサウンドに仕上がっており、この作品を特徴付けている。発売前の来日時に作られたと言われ、武道館で初めて披露された「イズ・ユア・ラブ・イン・ヴェイン」はポップなメロディ・ラインが、とても美しいラヴ・ソング。かつてのフォーク・ロック時代を思い起こさせる一方、リズムのタイトさや重さが際だっているが、全体を通して詩の内容、サウンド面から新しい方向性を探っていると言えるだろう。 解説・歌詞・対訳付。
