ボブ・ディランのサード・アルバム。1964年作品。フォークシンガーとして一躍注目を集め人気を得ていた時期の作品。又この頃からジョーン・バエズと活動を共にする事が多くなり、フォーク界のプリンスと呼ばれるようになる。本作での、生活苦ゆえの一家心中、町の若き有力者に殴打されて殺された黒人女性、公民権闘争の運動家ゆえに殺害された若き黒人の生きた社会など実際に起こった出来事をモチーフにしながら描かれた歌の数々は、メッセージ色が濃くプロテストシンガーとしての評価が高まりを見せる。特にアルバムタイトル曲である「時代は変る」はプロテストソングの代表曲となり、数多くのアーティストに取上げられた。揺れ動くアメリカの国内情勢であるがゆえに、こうして彼への要望や期待は次第に過度なものとなっていった。本作からプロデューサーが、ジョン・ハモンドからトム・ウィルソンに。 解説・歌詞・対訳付。
