ボブ・ディランの記念すべきデビュー・アルバム。1962年作品。CBSの名物プロデューサーであったジョン・ハモンドが制作にあたり、1962年11月20日と22日のわずか二日間で録音した。ここに収められた13曲は、自作の2曲を除くと全てカヴァー曲のためソングライターとしてのディランの魅力を知るには物足りないかもしれないが、ここに並んでいるの曲の数々は、ブラインド・レモン・ジェファーソン、ブッカ・ホワイトといったブルースシンガーの曲やトラディショナルに始まり同時代のフォークシンガーの歌に至るまでと、雄弁にディランのルーツと今を物語っている。一方で、自作曲はウディ・ガスリーへの敬愛振りが素直に出た内容に仕上がった。従来からのものさしでは計れない表現力を持った歌唱や多彩なギター演奏も本作の魅力。 解説・歌詞・対訳付。
