ドイツの実力派ピアニスト、ラルス・フォークト。2003/04にはベルリン・フィルで初の"ピアニスト・イン・レジデンス"に選出されるなど高い評価を受け、近年はソリストとしてだけでなく、室内楽奏者としても注目を浴びている名手。本作は彼自身が音楽監督を務めるロイヤル・ノーザン・シンフォニアを弾き振りしたベートーヴェンの2曲の協奏曲。第1番の協奏曲は25歳のベートーヴェンの手による意欲作。フォークトはこの曲を1995年にも録音しているが、今回の新録は自身の意思を更に思いのままに炸裂させた自由自在な表現が魅力。壮大な第5番も重々しいピアノの音色を生かした緊張感に満ちた演奏。フォークトによる「ベートーヴェン: ピアノ協奏曲シリーズ」の第1作。2016年/2017年録音。
