Red [Cardboard Sleeve]

After violinist David Cross left, Bruford, Fripp and Wetton formed King Crimson as a trio to record this album. The album starts with RED some sort of blues, very heavy and played with the WRONG notes! The next song is FALLEN ANGEL. Here it is really great that you now can hear the Mellotron on the remastered version of this album! The sound on the older CD masters is really terrible. The song starts as a ballad in 4/4 supplied by an cor anglais. Robert Fripp plays here his acoustic guitar as lovely as on WAKE OF POSEIDON but then the refrain (in 6/8): distorted guitars & heavy bass and drum playing plus the voice of J. Wetton! ONE MORE RED NIGHT MARE is maybe a bit like mainstream, but it is still interesting enough! PROVIDENCE is obviously an improvisation like the ones you already know from MOONCHILD a.s.o. Starless of course (for those who don't know this song) is the most sensational song on this album. By listening to this song I always get goose pimple! It is beautiful, pathetic, dark, mysterious, wild, hypnotic... and then when the song ends after nearly 12 minutes: you only let your breath out! Everybody who loves progressive rock will love this album.
