[Machine Translation] Will a lawyer who has opposed the death penalty change his stance when his wife is murdered? Can he defend the alleged murderer of his best friend's wife? A lawyer, a prosecutor, and a victim each struggle with the difficulties of judging people from their own perspectives. Yusuke Mito (Koji Yamamoto), a law school lecturer who passed the bar exam but did not become a lawyer; Kojiro Otomo (Yukiyoshi Ozawa), a famous lawyer who advocates the abolition of the death penalty; and Mariko Nagase (Naho Toda), a prosecutor. One day, Otomo's wife is murdered by someone. The suspect arrested is Shinzo Sabae ( Takashi Kashiwabara ), who has a grudge against the trial that Otomo was in charge of. Otomo overturns his previous allegations and demands Sabae be executed. This incident leads Mito to decide to become a lawyer and take a stand in the court of justice. However, his first case is against Sabae, who is accused of killing his best friend Otomo's wife.

死刑制度に反対してきた弁護士は、妻を殺されてもその主張を変えないのか? 親友の妻を殺したとされる容疑者を、弁護することはできるのか? 我が子を殺された親は、死刑を免れた加害者をどう思うのか? 弁護士、検事、被害者がそれぞれの立場から、人が人を裁くことの難しさに苦悩する。司法試験に合格しながらも、弁護士にはならなかった法学部講師・水戸裕介(山本耕史)、死刑廃止を主張する有名弁護士・大伴浩二郎(小澤征悦)、検事の永瀬麻梨子(戸田菜穂)。3人は共に司法を学び、それぞれ死刑に対する考えを持っていた。ある日、大伴の妻が何者かに殺害される。容疑者として逮捕されたのは、大伴が担当した裁判に恨みを持つ鯖江申三(柏原崇)だった。大伴は、今までの主張をくつがえし鯖江に対し死刑を求める。このことをきっかけに、水戸は弁護士になり司法の場に立つことを決意する。しかし、水戸が最初に弁護を担当することになったのは、親友である大伴の妻を殺したとされる鯖江だった。
