Schubert: Piano Duo Works

[Machine Translation] In his short life of 31 years, Schubert left behind a large number of works, mainly songs. The Piano Duo, which he performed with his closest friends, also occupies an important place in his oeuvre. The works vary in style from the great works such as "The Storm of Life" and "Grand Duo," to the well-known "Military March No. 1," to the more casual Lentler and Dances, but all have a fluid melody and intimate atmosphere, and sometimes reveal unexpected depths. The musicians are Mr. and Mrs. Goldstone and Mr. and Mrs. Klemow. Their breathtaking playing, cultivated over many years, is truly one of a kind. The complete works were previously released on the OLYMPIA label in a seven-CD set, and have been reissued in this boxed set with all of the recordings remastered as is.

31年という短い生涯に、歌曲を中心に夥しい数の作品を残したシューベルト。親しい友人たちと演奏した「ピアノ・デュオ」も作品の中で重要な位置を占めている。「人生の嵐」や「グラン・デュオ」などの大作から、誰もが知っている「軍隊行進曲 第1番」、気の置けないレントラーや舞曲など作品の趣きは様々だが、どれも流麗なメロディと親密な雰囲気を持ち、時には思いがけないほどの深淵が顔を見せるシューベルトらしい作品。演奏しているのはゴールドストーンとクレモウ夫妻。長年培った息のあった演奏は、まさに一心同体。この全集は以前、OLYMPIAレーベルから7枚の分冊としてリリースされていたもので、今回のBOX化にあたっては全収録曲をそのままリマスタリングしての再発。
