2006年、モンペリエ国立管弦楽団の演奏会で、ジェームズ・コンロンの代役としてショスタコーヴィチの交響曲第7番を演奏。大成功を収めた1980年生まれの女性指揮者アリアーネ・マティアク。このアルバムはマティアクにおけるCAPRICCIOレーベルへの5枚目の録音です。収録されているのはイタリアにまつわる2つの作品。リヒャルト・シュトラウスの「イタリアから」はイタリア旅行で得たインスピレーションを元に、4楽章の交響的幻想曲に仕上げた作品。ヴォルフ=フェラーリの「ヴェネツィア組曲」は作曲家60歳の時の作品。マティアクは作風の違いを生かし、ベルリン放送交響楽団と共に各々の曲を鮮明に表現しています。
