Prokofiev: Ivan The Terrible - Original Motion Picture Scores

This recording, however, uses a reconstructed version of the original score written by Prokofiev himself. You can enjoy a different number than usual.

1944年から1946年にかけて制作された映画『イワン雷帝』は、16世紀半ばに実在したイヴァン4世の生涯を描いた作品。残虐、非道な人物で、第1部で一旦は世間から引きこもるも、第2部では民衆の支持を受け大粛清を行うという内容が、当時の権力者スターリンを暗に批判しているとされ、上演禁止となってしまい、予定されていた第3部が制作されることなかった。プロコフィエフの音楽はロシア正教会の伝統を踏まえながらも、色彩豊かな音が溢れている。この作品、1961年にプロコフィエフのアシスタントの一人であるレヴォン・アトヴミャンがオラトリオの編曲を手掛けたが、こちらは演奏されることなく、同じ時期に指揮者、作曲家のアブラム・スタセヴィチがオラトリオ化したものが通常演奏されている。しかし今回の録音は、プロコフィエフ自身が書いたオリジナル・スコアを再構築したヴァージョンを使用。通常とは違ったナンバーがじっくり楽しめる。
