ウィーン出身のエルンスト・トッホ (1887-1964)。大学では哲学と医学を学び、正規の音楽教育は受けなかったものの、独学で書き上げた「室内交響曲」でモーツァルト賞を獲得したため、作曲家の道を歩むことになった。当初はブラームス風の作品を書いていたが、やがて前衛的な書法に挑戦するも、1950年代を前に、後期ロマン派風の調性音楽に戻った。このアルバムに収録された作品は、第一次世界大戦終了後に無調などの作風を取り入れながら、自らの音楽スタイルを模索していた時期に作曲されたもので"音符の数を極端に削減しながらも、ロマンティックな印象を与える"ことが重視されている。トッホの作品に魅せられているというアンナ・マグダレーナ・コーキッツは日本にも来日経験のあるピアニスト。2015年/2016年録音。
