90年代に結成され、クラウト・ロック、ポスト・パンク、ポップ・ミュージック、ラウンジ、ポスト・ロックなど、様々な音楽を網羅した幅広い音楽性でオルタナを超えて、全方位の音楽ファンより愛されるバンド、ステレオラブ。2019年に10年ぶりに本格再始動した彼らが、レア音源をコンパイルした人気シリーズ"Switched On"の最新作として『PULSE OF THE EARLY BRAIN [SWITCHED ON VOLUME 5]』をリリース。【Warp Records】と【Duophonic UHF Disks】のダブルネームでリリースされる本作は、メンバーのティム・ゲインの監修の元、ベルリンのBo at Calyxにてオリジナル・テープからリマスタリングが施されている。作品はアヴァンギャルドな音楽ファンの間でカルト的な人気を誇るナース・ウィズ・ウーンドとのコラボレーション第2弾として1997年にリリースされた「Simple Headphone Mind」、「Trippin' With The Birds」の2曲で始まり、続いて92年にリリースされた『Low Fi』収録の4曲、他にもオウテカのリミックスやSoi-Disantとのコラボレーション、日本盤CDのボーナス・トラックとしてリリースされた楽曲や、限定ソノシートで発売された楽曲、デモ音源、ライブ音源、未発表曲など、レア音源全21曲を収録。国内流通仕様盤CDには解説書が封入。Tシャツ(XLサイズ)付き。
