西暦208年から2008年へ―― 1800年の時を超えて紡がれる"愛と勇気の伝説"『レッドクリフ』。『M:I-2』でハリウッドの頂点を極めたジョン・ウー監督が、『パイレーツ・オブ・カリビアン』のスタッフとタッグを組み、製作費100億円を投入して作り上げたスペクタクル巨編! 壮大な戦いと戦の最中に繰り広げられる人間模様を2部構成で描いていく。第1部にあたる本作は周瑜、孔明を中心に「赤壁の戦い」に至るまでの経緯を丁寧な描写で追う。周瑜を演じたトニー・レオンは芯のしっかりとした演技でカリスマ性を見事に表現。一方、諸葛孔明を演じた金城武は常に微笑をたやさぬ悠然とした演技で、希代の名軍師の懐の深さを印象づけることに成功。 西暦208年。曹操軍に追われる劉備軍は孫権軍と同盟を結ぶため、軍師の孔明を孫権のもとに遣わした。しかし孫権軍では曹操に脅威を感じているものの非戦を唱える臣下が多く、同盟は容易に成立しそうもない。そんな中、孔明は赤壁で孫権軍の司令官・周瑜と出会い、そのカリスマ性に魅了される。一方の周瑜も孔明の人柄と戦術眼に驚嘆し、その存在を意識するようになる。そして二人は信頼を深め、共に戦う事を決意するのだった――。
