オーケストラを迎えて開催を予定していた「20th Anniversary HY & Orchestra Premium TOUR " 星空 "」の延期、そのほか予定していたイベントやフェスも見送りになるなど活動が制限されることの多かった2020年。HYはオンラインでのライブ配信やSNSコンテンツの拡充、5ヶ月連続で配信シングルを発表するなど、できることをコツコツと積み重ねてきた。またこの期間を制作期間にも充て、彼らが伝えたい想いとじっくり向き合う時間とした結果、実に14枚目となるニューアルバムが完成。このアルバムを聴いてみなさんに笑顔になってほしいという思いを込めて"花笑み""花咲み"をという言葉をチョイス、『HANAEMI』というタイトルがつけられた。1曲1曲を"花"にたとえ、アルバム全体を花束に見立てた構成に。ジャケットにはメンバーによる手づくりのハーバリウムをモチーフとして使用。「車に乗って」「ココロホシゾラ」など優しく爽やかな"HYらしい"楽曲から、「Good Bye」「% ～m.e.r～」など仲宗根泉の詩曲による渾身のバラード、そして新たな楽曲プロデューサーを迎えサウンド面で新たな表現にチャレンジした曲「North Forest」など、25周年に向けて新たな一歩を踏み出したHYを体感できる意欲作!
