今作のテーマは"戦い"。タイトルの『I vs I』には、音楽と向き合う自分自身との戦い、ライバルや自分たちを取り巻く環境との戦い、そして、和楽器バンドのメンバーデビュー以来9年間、自分たちの音を世界へ届ける為に戦ってきたという真っ直ぐな思いが込められている。収録楽曲には、和楽器バンドの代表曲となっているフジテレビ系月9ドラマ「イチケイのカラス」主題歌「Starlight」、TVアニメ「MARS RED」オープニングテーマ曲「生命のアリア」などの既発曲から、先日全世界配信が発表されたNetflixアニメ「範馬刃牙」2期OPテーマ「The Beast」などタイアップ楽曲満載の全13曲収録のオリジナルアルバムとなっている。ボーナストラックとして、NHK Eテレで放送されていたアニメ「あはれ! 名作くん」主題歌「名作ジャーニー」、すとぷりへの提供楽曲として話題となった「星の如く」のセルフカバーも収録。[CD Only盤]には、このCDにのみ収録される全曲のInstrumentalを収録 (CD1枚に収録)。
