パロ・アルト ～ザ・ロスト・コンサート [SHM-CD] / セロニアス・モンク
今も世界中の音楽ファンを魅了する数多くの名曲を作曲しまた唯一無二のユニークな演奏スタイルでジャズ史上最高の鬼才と呼ばれるセロニアス・モンク。彼が円熟期を迎えていた1960年代後半の完全未発表ライヴ音源が発掘され、今年創立60周年を迎えたジャズの名門インパルス・レーベルからリリース! モンクの未発表ライヴ音源は過去にもリリースされているが、これまでと大きく異なるのは、本作が収録された場所がカルフォルニア州パロ・アルトにある普通の高校だということ。キング牧師が暗殺され、全米が人種差別に揺れていた1968年10月、ジャズを通して人々の結束を願う一人の男子高校生の思いに応えてモンクが出演した学内コンサートを全編収録。当時のレギュラー・カルテットを率いて、「ブルー・モンク」、「エピストロフィー」など代表曲を熱演。
