The Japanese SHM-CD manufacturing brings out incredible macro-dynamics—expertly balancing Tony Levin’s growling low-end, Mel Collins' expressive woodwinds, and Fripp's razor-sharp guitar textures. Live In Chicago 2017 SHM-CD Edition [SHM-CD] [Limited Release] [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)]King CrimsonThis is a great albumThis double CD captures the colossal eight-piece lineup during their iconic night at the Chicago Theatre, marking the return of Bill Rieflin. The crown jewel here is the inclusion of the “Lizard” suite excerpts (“Dawn Song”, “The Last Battle”, “Prince Rupert's Lament”). This Japanese press fixes original mixing limitations, pushing Fripp’s emotional guitar solo on “Lizard” right to the front with breathtaking clarity. Aggressive, heavy, and meticulously balanced, it stands as a mandatory masterpiece for audiophiles.

Friday Night In San Francisco [Low-priced Reissue]Al Di Meola.John McLaughlin.Paco De LuciaFantastic trio of guitaristsOn this album you can enjoy the amazing skills and different styles from three virtuosic guitarlayers: Paco De Lucia with his innovative flamenco guitar technique, John McLaughlin with his stunning speed and, last but not least, Al DiMeola with his distinctive 'deading' of the strings. The interplay (in different duo's and in the end as a trio) is awesome, a genuine "guitar heaven"! The way they follow or challenge each other is so exciting, these three musicians are the absolute summit. They play jazz, rock, blues and of course flamenco and there is even room for humor when they start to play the tune of the Pink Panther, very cool!

The Moment [Low-priced Reissue]Kenny GGood!Kenny G’s The Moment is an excellent album overall and offers great value at an affordable price. The saxophone has a pleasing tone, and the performances are wonderful. I would have enjoyed it even more if the saxophone had a little more edge and bite to its sound. Still, I’m very happy with this purchase.

J.S.Bach: Goldberg Variations [SHM-CD]Andras Schiff (piano)Excellent sound qualityExcellent sound quality and a wonderful performance by Schiff. The piano sounds clear and natural, with each keystroke beautifully captured. I’m not sure whether the CD’s green coating makes a difference, but the sound feels especially vivid to me. Schiff’s playing is expressive and refined, making Bach’s Goldberg Variations a pleasure to listen to.

Maria Joao Pires Best Of Best [UHQCD] [Limited Release]Maria Joao PiresGood! This two-CD collection brings together a well-chosen selection of Pires’s signature pieces and movements. Perhaps because of the green coating, the piano sounds especially clear and luminous to my ears. Her performances are, of course, outstanding. My only reservation is that the excerpts sometimes interrupt the emotional flow, making me wish I could hear the complete works. Still, I’m grateful to have so many highlights of her repertoire in one album.

Getz/Gilberto [UHQCD]Stan Getz & Joao GilbertoGood!Getz/Gilberto is a classic album with many excellent digital versions already available. I bought this CD to try the green-coated edition, and overall, it sounds great. There is a slightly veiled quality to the sound, similar to what I hear in other versions. To my ears, this seems to be a characteristic of the original recording. Overall, I’m pleased with this purchase.

The Christmas Song [SHM-CD]Nat King ColeGood.Nat King Cole’s Christmas album is the one I listen to most during the winter season. I already own a high-resolution digital version and a vinyl copy, but I bought this edition to try the SHM-CD. The sound is decent, though it did not quite meet my expectations. Helen Merrill With Strings [SHM-CD]Helen MerrillGood!Helen Merrill with Strings offers good sound quality and wonderful performances. To my ears, this SHM-CD sounds better than a standard CD, though I’m not sure how much of that comes from the SHM-CD format itself. Compared with the high-resolution digital version, it falls a little short. Overall, it is an enjoyable album, and I’m happy with this purchase.
