BARBEE BOYSの再始動を経て、2020年ソロ・プロジェクトとして配信限定シングル「One Flame, Two Hearts」と「Welcome to the Nightmare」をリリースした杏子の、ソロとしては約8年半ぶりとなるフルアルバム。Superflyや木村拓哉など多くのアーティストを手掛けてきた作曲家・プロデューサーである多保孝一とタッグを組み、昨年配信限定シングル2曲を含む全10曲を収録。アルバムタイトルと同名曲の「VIOLET」に始まり、ファンとのコール&レスポンスを楽しめることも意識しながら作ったロックナンバー「The Black Knight」や、ピアノとボーカルというシンプルな編成のバラード「the days ～幸せをどうか～」、杏子自身が作詞を務めた「"Hell, it's me"」など、杏子の様々な表情を見せてくれるバラエティ豊かな楽曲が並んでいる。アルバムの最後を飾る「調子乗ってDance」は、在日ファンクの浜野謙太が作詞を務め、リズミカルでポップなサウンドに浜野らしい遊び心のある言葉が乗ったダンサブルなナンバーに仕上がった。様々な初の試みにも挑戦しながら約1年かけて作り上げた、杏子の新境地を強く印象付ける渾身作。
